Chengde 承德

Chengde was the summer playground of the emperors of the Qing dynasty. The Qing Court would flee here to escape the torpid summer heat of the Forbidden City, as well as to be closer to the hunting grounds of their northern homelands.

Here you can visit the Putuozongcheng Temple which is a smaller version of the Potala in Lhasa, as well as the Bishu Shanzhuang, which was the summer imperial palace.
